What do you think walking stick Kate Bosworth and Melbourne Cup jockey Chris Munce were talking about? What not to eat? How to break the 45 kilo barrier without fainting? Why water is a complete meal? Actually, Kate looks like she has been nobbled - either that or the diuretics have kicked in…
Print or plain? Long or short? Feathers or straw? So many questions, so few answers! Yet again, I have left until the last minute vital decisions regarding my attire for the First Tuesday of November, and I am feeling the pain. Firstly, I haven’t fake tanned it, which means I am now having the white fat/brown fat dilemma. Secondly, do I hat up or not? This is not an easy question to answer. Hats bring with them the issue of hat hair. Major drama, particularly as Busy Bee is backing up her Melbourne Cup luncheon with the Billy Joel concert at Burswood Dome tomorrow night. No hat therefore is winning the debate, yet one still feels some pressure to make a token effort. Which is why I may be spending the rest of the evening rifling through my daughters craft draw and attempting not to hot-glue gun myself to feathers.
Availability of said feathers may in turn determine what dress I wear, to avoid an unsightly clash of colours. Pastel or print? Floral or plain? Perfect fitting old dress, or slightly tight and uncomfortable new dress that I haven’t quite lost the three kilo’s I promised I would before wearing it? Beauty is pain right? Bugger it, a couple of glasses of champagne should numb the pain.
Talking of pain brings me to shoes. Sensible, comfortable and therefore ugly would probably be the most practical, given my gruelling schedule. But as a recent convert to gorgeous yet ridiculously high heeled shoes, I really should wear some of my recent purchases just to justify their cost. Why is it that the less there is to a shoe, the more expensive it is? Anyway, lets be honest, shoes never hurt until you are just far enough away from home that you can’t turn back and change them. Then they turn into razor blades, cutting deeply into your skin and making you reach for more medicinal glasses of champagne. It is a vicious circle…I think the whole day may be masterminded by the makers of Nurofen and Berocca, who will surely do their biggest day of business outside New Years Day on the day after the First Tuesday in November. And the hilarious thing is - I wouldn’t know one end of a horse from another. I bet on the jockey’s colours and whatever horse I drew in the sweep. Tragic.
