Alien Spice?!

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

So that is why she has been wearing all those crazy clothes, starving herself and hanging out with weirdo’s - it was all preparation for her latest movie role… I can’t quite believe it, only because surely it would be the final nail in the coffin of Tom Cruise’s Hollywood career, but, apparently, he is going to make a movie called The Thetan, based on Scientology, and he has signed Victoria Beckham to play an alien bride.  What an absolutely brilliant piece of casting.  So perfect.  But, where does that leave Katie? Or would that role be just a little too close to home for her?

Martha, Martha, Martha…!

Monday, December 18th, 2006

OMG! I can’t believe it! Martha Stewart, that self-made queen of taste, class and dignity ( as long as you forget about that teensy, tiny little stay in a federal penitentiary…) has admitted in a radio interview with New York shock jock Howard Stern that she has a $1,200US vibrator, which she says is ‘a very handy little tool!’

Not only that, Martha once had an affair with actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, but she reckons that she couldn’t get past the “Hannibal Lecter thing”. Martha said “Do you want someone eating your brain while you are sitting in your beautiful dining room in Maine?” Fair enough, although perhaps it would inspire a story for her magazine - ‘Removing Blood Stains 101…’

On Friday night at The Raffles Hotel in Applecross, ousted Education Minister Ljiljianna Ravlich drowning her sorrows and having a few lung biscuits with Union heavyweight (although less-so since the stomach stapling operation…) Kevin Reynolds who lives in a nearby apartment in the ritzy riverside development.

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams enjoying the nuptials of Heath’s dad, Kim Ledger and his lovely new bride Ines, who is well known to customers at Maurice Meade in Claremont as the gorgeous lady who meets and greets everyone. The weather on Friday night perfectly suited the riverside location of Acqua Viva, previously known as JoJo’s Cafe on the Nedlands foreshore. Acqua Viva is run by Christian Tinelli, whose father, Umberto is well known to many Perth diners as the charming man who runs Cafe Gran Il Principe in West Perth and previously Campo di Fiore in Applecross. It is expected that Heath, Michelle and their daughter Matilda will enjoy Christmas together in Perth with the Ledger family before returning to their home in New Jersey.

At the cricket on Saturday, Adam Gilchrist’s parents were absolutely delighted to see their son amass the second fastest century in history on his home ground in front of his home crowd. They shared their joy with the families of all the other test cricketers, who all sat together in front of the Australian team’s dressing rooms. Shane Warne’s parents were here to cheer Shane on as he approaches his 700th test wicket, but they will not be disappointed if he doesn’t get the necessary wickets during the Perth test. A more appropriate setting for the Victorian bowler would be the MCG during the Boxing Day test according to some….

While we are talking about the Ashes, ABC Commentator Kerry O’Keefe has been entertaining the crowds at lunchtime at various functions during the course of the test. Kerry can be very funny, but, to be honest Kerry, if you tell the same stories over and over at every function, the crowd will start talking over you and not finding you all that funny. Especially if they have also been hearing the same stories during the commentary on ABC radio…

And now, a word from her NA sponsor…

Well, Britney might think that she deserves to be sut a little slack, given that she has just given Kev the flick and all, but I am just not sure that the poor girl realises just how out of control her life is. Especially in light of recent reports that Brits has been seeking support of the pharmaceutical kind… American magazine In Touch Weekly is reporting that whilst Britney was out on the town on Nov.27th, she dined at Dan Tana’s restaurant in West Hollywood, went to the toilets, plonked her purse down on the counter and started rifling through it, pulling out bottles of Paxil (an anti-depressant) and Xanax (anti-anxiety) amongst others. This is in addition to rumours that Britney may have picked up a few ‘habits’ from some of her new BFF’s, and that she may soon expect a visit from the Californian Department of Children and Family Services. Go home and lay low, Britney, for goodness sake. No-one wants to see Kev end up with the kids!!!! You were the one who wanted to be a young Mum - go do it!

What a Show, Girl!

Last night, Australia’s Impossibly Perfect Princess entertained an appreciative Perth audience that kept asking for more of their gorgeous heroine. The Singing Budgie left the building a long time ago. Kylie Minogue has proven time and again, but especially on this particularly gruelling comeback tour, that she can sing. She has an amazing range, depth and clarity to her voice, which has matured with her over the years. She has totally refined her craft, going back to ensuring that she entertains, interacts, and gives 150% to her audience.

Last night’s concert started slowly, with Kylie doing minimal dancing in the opening set. Initially I thought “gee, the past 18 months has really taken its toll…” However, as the concert progressed, I realised that it was the incredibly elaborate, detailed, and obviously very heavy costume that was restricting her movement. As the show progressed, the pace really picked up, and the energy in room reflected it. Kylie had the audience in the palm of her hand, and they were willing participants. During the many costume changes that added to the spectacle of the show, the crowd clapped, cheered and chanted “Kylie” just to make sure she came out again.
Her back-up dancers were totally amazing and entertaining, leaving the crowd exhausted just watching them.

For me, the entrance she made singing “Somewhere, over the rainbow” took my breath away, she sang the song so well and she looked so beautiful and WELL! But after channelling her inner Judy Garland in that moment, she then took on the daughters persona, with a Liza Minelli inspired Jazz/Blues version of “Locomotion” that totally rocked. One of the things that I love about Kylie is that she is just so beautiful, and classy, dignifed and respectful of her audience. There were lots of little girls there last night, who would have dreamed of growing up and being Kylie one day…and I am OK with that. You wouldn’t say the same thing about Britney Spears. In the audience just in front of us, former West Coast Eagle Glen Jakovic bopped along to Kylie with his 5 year old daughter. It was very cute!
I know I am a softy at the best of times, but I was a little unprepared for how emotional I felt when Kylie finally came out on the stage after such a long wait to see her. Her journey over the past 2 years has been such a difficult one and seeing her return to her dream, when it could so easily have ended differently, was inspirational and incredibly moving. When she thanked the crowd for holding onto their tickets after the tour was initially postponed after her breast cancer diagnosis, I was in tears. Her journey gives hope to so many other women, and I think it is us who are so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky to have been part of it. Thankyou Kylie. Have a fabulous Christmas. Can’t wait to see you next time you are in Perth.

Happy Birthday, dear Britneeeee…

Ok, once white trash, always white trash. It would seem that Britney’s recent bizarre behaviour is not entirely new, although I have found a video that seems to uncover a long-held belief that she was missing out on, you know, life… In this classic clip, shot by the one and only Fed-Ex, we get some insight into a younger stoned Britney, and quite frankly, it scares the cr*# out of me. Happy 25th Birthday Britney. May this year bring you wisdom, a reality check, some happiness and stability, and a full underwear draw.

Robbie Williams Rocks!!!

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Last night, BZB had a divine experience. I was in the presence of Greatness. And his name, is Robbie…Robbie Williams. Women swooned, and thought he was charasmatic, cheeky, flirty and gorgeous. Men felt a little threatened, thinking he was cocky, arrogant , mouthy and a show-off. But one thing both genders agreed on - the guy can sing, and the guy knows how to entertain a crowd. That is what makes him so great. He is a show-man, and boy, does he deliver.

Last night was the vintage Robbie Williams Extravaganza that Perth fans had been waiting so long to see. You could feel the excitement building in the crowd as the afternoon turned into evening and the crowd in the moshpit got bigger and more boisterous. Every song he played, bar two, were number one hits. The two that weren’t are off his new album, and they soon will be. He looked fantastic, and showed off his bod and some new inkwork to a very appreciative crowd. He flattered, he flirted, he wondered about the fickleness of the weather, which he had been led to believe would be perfect. However, the light sprinkling of rain didn’t do anything to dampen the spirits of Robbie or the crowd. He wanted to know why there weren’t groupies hanging out in the lobby of his hotel - poor girls probably couldn’t get past the media that are camped out.

He teased us about the possibility of a surprise guest of the Minogue kind, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. He did bring along good buddy Jonny Wilkes to sing Strong and Me and My Shadow and the tow of them had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hand. Again, demonstrating just what a fine singer Robbie Williams is. For old times sake, he sang Want You Back fromhis Take That days, having a dig at his former groupmates for reforming without him!

For those of you attending tonight, he promised that he would be over the jetlag that he said affected his performance a little last night. If it did, I missed it. The guy is an Entertainer, and we, the audience, were certainly entertained. Below is a clip from the opening of the show. Enjoy!
